Guests/Visitors

Visitors from other Fed affiliated clubs (having their own local sailing sites) are allowed to sail occasionally at Hoylake by prior arrangement only and provided no open/national regatta is fixed for that date. They must contact the Secretary in advance to arrange to be met and briefed at the clubhouse before sailing on the bank. They must also sign in the visitor’s book with name, address, club details, sail number and a next of kin contact phone number. A nominal fee may be charged for using this facility.

Please note that visitors are not permitted to use any of the club's vehicles, under any circumstances.

Day membership

Although a 'Day Membership/Insurance' system is available for UK residents, it is only available in special circumstances due to the admin necessary. The Club does not currently offer 'have-a-go' days or rental equipment.

National or Open Regattas

WSYC will consider competitors registered in organised regattas as visitors. They must be insured (policies recognised by BFSLYC) and documented (name, address, sail number and N.O.K. contact number) and the list must be held in the clubhouse. Sailing is allowed only under the control of a ‘Sailing Master’ who must brief sailors on the local rules and conditions at the start of the event and ensure that the warning signs and other risk assessment provisions are in place.

Authorised craft

The risk assessments created (separately) by the club and the Wirral Borough Council (WBC) cover the type of craft that are permitted on the site, and form the basis upon which the licencing agreement between the club and the WBC was created. These currently include class three, five and Standart sandyachts, mini-yachts and class eight parakarts.

Please note that sailboards, mountainboards and similar craft having 'weight-shift' steering are not permitted as they are considered unsafe by the Wirral Borough Council.

Arriving visitors

Guests of the club are required to sign the visitors' book at the clubhouse. In addition, familiarisation of the club's rules relating to the use of the facilities and sailing site are also a requirement of the WBC, and documentation is available in the clubhouse. If you are planning a visit and wish to familiarise yourself with the basics prior to arriving, please contact us.
